What is GSM?
GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) is the new internationally accepted cellular standard with almost one billion customers across 206 countries and regions worldwide.
An individual with a cellular phone connected to a GSM network is free to move between countries and still use their cellular phone with all of their supplementary services in any country that has a GSM cellular network in place. GSM offers an extensive and feature-rich "family" of voice and data services. BTC's Cybercell® uses the North American standard of 1900Mhz for its GSM network.
As the worldwide standard for wireless communication, GSM is facilitated by a microchip called the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM), which is usually inserted inside the phone’s battery compartment. Say goodbye to waiting in long lines to re-program or activate new phones. To change phones, simply place your SIM card in the phone you wish to use, and your number travels with you.
With GSM comes the ability to use your cellular phone for much more than just talking. Users will be able to browse the internet and send visual messages via GPRS. In addition, Multi-media Messaging will eventually come on stream as an advancement to Short Message Service (SMS), which will allow you to take photos and accompany them with both text and audio. BTC's Cybercell allows you the flexibility and convenience of being in touch while on the move.
Currently BTC provides GSM service in New Providence and Grand Bahama.
