Nassau, The Bahamas, March 4th 2010. The Bahamas Telecommunications Company Limited (BTC), made a corporate donation in the amount of One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000.00) to the Red Cross Haiti Relief effort. Acting President & CEO, I. Kirk Griffin, Sr. Vice President, Antonio Stubbs and Chief Financial Officer, Paul McClean made the presentation to Mrs. Caroline Turnquest, President of The Bahamas Red Cross Association this morning.
In addition to the Corporate donation, BTC also introduced a text to donate campaign which was coined "Each One Reach One". The campaign was very successful as consumers donated over Thirty One thousand dollars ($31, 00.00) in text donations. The texting campaign allowed customers to donate in unlimited increments of $1, $3 & $5. BTC employees also donated to the cause in the amount of Three thousand, one hundred dollars ($3,100.00).
Since the January 12th devastation, BTC has reduced the outbound rates to Haiti to twenty nine cents (.29) per minute when using BTC's Hello Long Distance Phone Card. As a result, friends and family members are able to make calls to Haiti at a lower rate until March 31st.
On January 25th, BTC also participated in a telethon organized by the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Clubs of Nassau. The company provided phone lines, equipment and man-power for the event which was a stellar success. BTC is also slated to assist the Ministry of Youth with its live concert and telethon slated for March 13th at the Rain Forrest Theatre.
BTC is extremely grateful to its employees and the general public for their extraordinary compassion and rapid mobilization in support of this effort. In the upcoming weeks, the organization will officially introduce its corporate charitable donation program to the public. |
