Mr. Kirk Griffin, Acting President and CEO of the Bahamas Telecommunications Company Ltd. (BTC) today branded as rubbish the report in the Bahama Journal of Monday, March 16, 2009 that stated that the company has plans to let go five executives at the end of the month.
I frankly have no clue where that story would have come from, stated an irate Mr. Griffin today. I am truly baffled. There has not been any discussion or deliberation that would have led to the assertions made in the news report. It is blatantly untrue and totally without basis.”
My only hope and expectation is that the Bahama Journal would apologize for their irresponsible journalism. In fact, there is no indication that anybody from Jones Communication attempted to contact myself for verification of the rumors that had been circulating, continued Mr. Griffin. That is something that could have easily been done before writing a story with such far reaching implications.
Mr. Griffin noted further that these types of distraction are wholly unnecessary as the company works diligently to execute the company’s strategic plans and position itself for an increasingly liberalized environment. Right now, all hands are on deck working to improve our customer service. We would hope that the press would continue to do its job and inform the public on BTC’s efforts and undertake constructive inquiry and critique where appropriate. Too many interesting things are happening in the telecommunications sector for the media to have to resort to idle gossip to generate stories.
I. Kirk Griffin
President & CEO (Acting)
