BTC AWARDS AMAZING EMPLOYEES
Nassau, The Bahamas, February 12. Long Island, San Salvador, Rum Cay and Ragged Island have proven that hard work pays off. These fantastic four islands won the coveted BTC “Be Amazing Customer Service Award” for 2008.

The year 2008 began with a mandate to ensure that each week ended with zero faults. The four islands accepted the challenge by completing all installations and repairs within the set time frame. As a result, subscribers throughout the length and breadth of Long Island, San Salvador, Rum Cay and Ragged Island were thrilled with level of professionalism they received from BTC by maintaining connectivity within these islands.

These islands are managed by “Superwoman” Ramona Taylor, a twenty year veteran in the telecommunications industry. Ramona attributes her success to teamwork. “With just sixteen employees covering these four islands teamwork is both crucial and essential,” said Taylor. "To me it’s about constantly reinforcing to my team that they are the ones that are responsible not just for providing telecommunications services, but for keeping our residents, businesses and our tourists connected to the world three hundred and sixty five days a year,” continued Taylor.

Technician Garvin Simmons said, “Winning this award is a good feeling. I’m just glad I was a part of the process. This came with multi-tasking, a lot of hard work and dedication.”

Senior Vice Presidents Antonio Stubbs and Tellis Symonette flew to Long Island for the presentation. Employees were presented with plaques and words of encouragement from the Senior Vice Presidents.

Long Island, San Salvador, Rum Cay and Ragged Island have become highly respected throughout the company as other islands and departments are striving to maintain high standards.

Taylor and her Long Island team members are noted for the high praises they received during Tropical Storm Noel in 2007. Despite excessive flooding, the team managed to provide a fiber link for ZNS TV 13 which allowed them to transmit updates and news stories during the natural disaster. They were also responsible for ensuring that officers of the Royal Bahamas Police were equipped with mobile phones as they patrolled throughout the communities to provide assistance to residents. ZNS News Reporter, Clint Watson described Ramona as “a true reflection of the kind of qualities that exemplify what a manager should be, ‘service beyond self’.”

Taylor began her employment with BTC in 1988 as an operator. During her tenure, she has expanded her knowledge and experience by working in various departments which has armed her with the skills required to move up the ranks. Taylor’s exposure to customer and administration has molded her into the professional that she is today.

The “Be Amazing Customer Service Award” was given last year to the island that went above and beyond in providing superior service and improving the quality of life for the people of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. Annual targets were set for each family island to measure their level of productivity. These four islands exceeded the set expectations through their demonstration of superior customer service on a daily basis.
