Nassau, The Bahamas, February 5, 2009. BTC’s Corporate Headquarters on John F. Kennedy Drive is now reopened for business after a four week closure following a fire on December 29th, 2008.
“We are happy to report that we have completed the necessary repairs, and BTC JFK is now reopened to the public,” said I. Kirk Griffin, Acting President & CEO. “Our main concern was ensuring that the building was safe for our employees and our customers, thus we immediately mobilized our emergency task management team to prepare a plan to restore normalcy to our Corporate Headquarters.” Griffin continued.
The emergency task force was led by the company’s executive team. The day to day project execution was overseen by Senior Managers, Nigel Smith and Brian Jacques of the Project Management and Logistics arms respectively.
“Commitment, dedication and team work best summarizes how we completed this project so quickly and professionally. Our team worked tirelessly and relentlessly to get JFK back up and running.” said Nigel Smith.
“To date we have completely changed all of the building’s electrical wiring and air conditioning ducts. In addition all of the telephone and data wires were replaced,” said Brian Jacques. “Due to the large amount of smoke penetration, BTC changed all of its ceilings on all floors,” Jacques continued.
“We only have to aesthetically complete the exterior of the building. In the interim there are temporary windows to protect the building. In the next three months, we hope to have the exterior fully completed,” noted Smith.
Police reports indicate that an electrical short in a first floor office was the cause of the December 29th blaze.
While BTC JFK was closed, staff members worked at the other Multi-Purpose Centres and Exchanges to make certain there was minimal disruption for our customers.
This was the first fire in the history of the company. BTC JFK was officially opened in 1983. The Corporate Headquarters also doubles as a multi-purpose centre allowing customers to access all of the company’s products and services.
