New Providence, The Bahamas, November 27, 2008 – Santa Claus will come twenty four days early for 300,000 loyal GSM customers. The Bahamas Telecommunications Company Limited (BTC) announced today that effective December 1 the costs for all basic mobile features will be eliminated permanently. All GSM customers will now have access to four basic features absolutely free.
Vice President of Marketing Mr. Marlon Johnson said “We at BTC want to make it a bit easier for everyone, in particular all of our cell phone customers, prepaid and postpaid. So, as our special Christmas gift to you this year, we will be eliminating forever the charges for some basic mobile services. “
The four free features are call-waiting, caller-ID, voicemail and multi-party calling. Previously the cost for these features were $2.00 each, a total of $8.00 per month for customers who had all of these features. This means that customers will no longer be in a ‘negative’ balance and all GSM customers will now be able to receive calls even if they do not have credit on their phones.
This gesture is a part of BTC’s commitment to providing superior service and the most modern, cost effective telecommunications solutions for its customers. These features are now being activated for all mobile customers.
BTC will be adding these features to customers’ phones up until December 1st, Thus, some customers may now already see some or all of the features on their phones. There will be no charge for the features.
Call waiting shows if you have a second call, and allows you to put your current call on hold while you take another. Caller ID allows a person receiving a phone call to see who is calling before answering the phone. The caller’s telephone number and/or name are displayed.
Voicemail allows a caller to leave you a message. To retrieve your messages you can call 557-0000 or *86. For first time voicemail subscribers, your default password is 9999. You should personalize your password after using it to prevent others from accessing your messages. Multiparty calling allows you to speak to two people at the same time. To use multiparty calling, make your first call, then dial the number of the second person. Press send, the first person is automatically put on hold while the call is made. When the second person answers, press join or conference to have a multiparty call.
Customers will be charged airtime and other charges which may include toll and long distance charges.
