GSM UPGRADES FOR ABACO & GRAND BAHAMA
Nassau, The Bahamas, September 26, 2008 – As a part of its ongoing GSM enhancement project, The Bahamas Telecommunications Company Limited (BTC) will carry out upgrades in Abaco and Grand Bahama from September 29 to October 31, 2008.

During this period, TDMA customers in Abaco and Grand Bahama will experience degradation in service. Customers in these islands may not be able to make or receive calls.

“These upgrades are necessary to ensure that the quality of our GSM service is up to acceptable standards. At the end of October, we hope to turn off our TDMA network and to have all of our customers migrated to the GSM platform,” said Marlon Johnson, Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Business Development.

BTC is urging its TDMA customers to make the switch to GSM immediately to avoid any inconvenience. Customers in Abaco and Grand Bahama can visit their nearest BTC location to make the switch. The process is free of charge and takes approximately fifteen minutes. In addition, TDMA customers will be extended 60% off on selected GSM phones when they come in to make the switch.

BTC began its GSM improvement project last year, and has invested millions to deploy GSM services in the Family Islands and to enhance services in New Providence, Grand Bahama and Abaco.
