MISSION POSSIBLE: BTC BLOOD DRIVE COLLECTS 336 PINTS
New Providence, The Bahamas, June 17, 2008 – The Bahamas Telecommunications Company Limited (BTC) completed an impossible mission at its 2nd Annual Blood Drive by collecting an unprecedented and phenomenal 336 pints of blood in eleven hours.

The BTC Blood Drive was scheduled to begin at 10am and end at 6pm on Saturday, however eager and enthusiastic donors were lined up and waiting at the Mall from 8:00am to give blood. Due to the scores of persons still waiting to give blood after 6pm the drive was extended to accommodate them. At 9:15pm, the last person donated blood for the day. Princess Margaret Hospital and Doctors Hospital collectively received 336 pints of blood. This amount has never been seen at any blood drive in the history of The Bahamas.

BTC Vice President for Marketing, Sales & Business Development Marlon S. Johnson said “BTC is a trailblazer and a trendsetter in the many community initiatives that we embark on. We are proud and thrilled to report that we have broken our own record for blood donation in the country.”

Last year, BTC was awarded for its efforts in the 2007 Blood Drive for collecting then the largest, single donation of blood ever. In 2007, the count was 120, and in 2008, BTC has almost tripled its efforts.

During the blood drive, donors and mall patrons were treated to a live concert by the ‘BTC Stars’ and performances by ‘Da Spot’, Vision, and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. The public was also able to meet the 2008 Miss Bahamas contestants.

BTC’s Blood Drive was also held on International World Blood Donor Day. Across the globe countries held events to encourage regular blood donation.

BTC views its annual blood drive as an intrinsic part of its corporate social commitment to the Bahamian public. The company continues to participate in meaningful community initiatives and partnerships which will improve the quality of life for the people of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. BTC’s 3rd Annual Blood Drive is scheduled for June 2009.
