BTC GIVES BACK TO PRE-PAID CUSTOMERS
Nassau, Bahamas February 5, 2008: The Bahamas Telecommunications Company Limited, BTC gave a Five Dollar ($5.00) credit to each of its GSM & TDMA pre-paid customers today. This credit came as a goodwill gesture from the Company after last Wednesday’s power outage which crippled cellular service on the pre-paid platform. This ‘goodwill gesture’ is expected to cost the telephone company hundreds of thousands of dollars in free telephone credit.

Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Business Development, Marlon Johnson said that “This gesture represents BTC’s commitment to providing the citizens of the Bahamas with quality customer service.” Johnson further stated that “BTC apologizes for the technical difficulties that led to last week’s cell phone dilemma and we would like to assure the public that we are doing everything that we can to ensure that this does not happen again.”

The power outage led to BTC’s two hundred and sixty thousand customers (260,000) without cellular service for over seven hours. Wireless services accounts for more than two thirds of the company’s profits. In fact the revenue from wireless subscribers continues to grow. Last year BTC introduced GSM cellular services in Andros, Berry Islands, Crooked Island, Eleuthera, Exuma, Inagua, Long Island, Ragged Island, Rum Cay and San Salvador.

In the upcoming months, BTC will introduce enhanced features for its cellular customers including data and multi media messaging services.
